Who taught you to play Honky Tonk Train Blues? is a common question among boogie woogie pianists. I learnt it from Original Boogie Woogie by Claude Bolling.

That said, Honky Tonk Train Blues and Pinetop’s Boogie Woogie are the only ‘standard tunes’ in this great publication. It really does its title justice, as it contains little-known boogie woogie classics and original compositions by this French jazz pianist. Watch Eric Legaud play the first boogie in this sheet music book, Death Ray Boogie, on his home piano in the video at the bottom of this page and judge for yourself.

All the transcriptions in this recommendable sheet music book are actually from a boogie woogie album that Bolling issues in 1968 of him playing some fantastic boogie woogie – no drums, no bass, just the piano and him.

Table of contents:

  1. Death Ray Boogie
  2. Honky Tonk Train Blues
  3. The Weary Blues
  4. Cow-Cow Boogie
  5. Triplets Bass Boogie
  6. Just Jokin’
  7. Pinetop’s Boogie Woogie
  8. Dardanella
  9. 3/4 6/8 Boogie
  10. Louisiana Glide
  11. Boogie Woogie on St. Louis Blues
  12. 5 Fingers Boogie

If you’d like to ‘try before you buy’, why not listen to this album on Spotify?

I am interested in the music to the full version of Death Ray Boogie, not the four page version that was published in the All Star Boogie Woogie book. Is the version you are selling the complete piece as played in the video? Also do you sell any transcriptions for Luca Sestak’s boogie woogies?

    • admin says:

      Hi Norm,

Yes, I have the -page transcription from this book for you. You can download the 6 MB zip file (which contains the JPGs of all the pages) at the following link: http://goo.gl/RXM2lY

I’m looking into creating Luca Sestak sheet music. Please check back for transcriptions of his excellent compositions.

      Keep rocking!

        Hi Andre,
Thanks for getting back to me. Unfortunately the exact number of pages of the Death Ray Boogie failed to show up in your reply. I already have the four page version, and I am hoping that this book has the “uncensored” version. Please let me know at your earliest convenience. Thanks!! By the way, I saw Luca Sestak perform recently, and he truly is amazing!
I am currently working on his My Rock’n Boogie (video version). Hope springs eternal that some day I will be able to give a serviceable version of his composition.
